This week, I’m reflecting on the beauty of ministry through movement, how dance becomes prayer when we surrender it to God. As my team and I prepare for the Dance to Deliver Conference, we’re entering a week of consecration, growth, and stillness. Between revivals, rehearsals, and reflection, I’m reminded that true worship isn’t just in motion, it’s in the heart behind every step.

It’s been a while since I last laid down some words on this keyboard, and I have to say, I truly missed it. I know right now there are maybe five of you who even glance at these posts, but honestly, having even one person be part of this little community is all the accountability I need.

This week is full, busier than the last few which were packed with anniversaries and revivals. But this weekend? Conference time. For my dancers and me, that means a week set aside for consecration and formation: being intentional about both our spiritual growth and our physical growth.

It’s more than just another event on the calendar; it’s a moment of renewal. Last year, the Dance to Deliver Conference stretched me, body, mind, and spirit. I knew I had to share it with my church home and my dancers. There’s something powerful about stepping away from routine and intentionally preparing ourselves to minister through movement.

In dance ministry, it’s easy to get caught up in choreography, garments, or presentation. But weekends like this remind me why we do what we do. Before we ever step on a stage, we spend time at the altar. We align, we listen, we surrender. Because what we carry in our spirit matters more than any step we execute.

We experienced that firsthand just a few days ago when we ministered at East Orange/Newark Church of God. We were invited to dance for their One Accord Youth Ministry Revival, and the Lord took us to another dimension, it was unlike anything before. The song the Lord placed on my heart was “Deeper Experience Chant” by Esther Jonathan, and it called us into prayer. We left room for the Holy Spirit to move through us and surrendered our own understanding.

We were given the theme of the revival but had no idea what the people of that congregation truly needed. As we prayed and created under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, we were led into our own secret places, and the piece reflected that personal encounter.

This week, my focus is on stillness as much as motion, on allowing God to teach me in the quiet moments between practices, and in the laughter that fills our rehearsals. I’m believing this will be one of those weekends that marks us forever.

So, to my dancers (and my five faithful people 😊), let’s keep showing up with open hearts. May this be the week we dance not just with our feet, but with our faith.
