How This Dance Ministry Started

I'm so excited to be starting another season of dance ministry. The art of dance is so close to my heart, it's always an honor to get to share it with God and other people. I was given a desire for dance before I was given the gift. As a child, I watched my big sister dance in her after school clubs and wanted to do the same. I remember practicing so hard and still not being able to perform with the other dancers. The skill had not yet been developed.

Eventually, my mother must have noticed my determination to learn to dance because, before I realized it, we were enrolled in a praise dance team AND a dance school near our home. The praise dance team was a ministry linked to a church we had never visited before, and to say their style of worship was unfamiliar would be an understatement. I felt more uncomfortable learning the emotional style of dance at the church than I did learning the technical style at the dance school.

Sadly, my time at the dance school lasted only about a year, since I gained more siblings and my mother could no longer afford it. However, I believe that wasn't an issue from God's perspective. This situation allowed me to concentrate solely on liturgical dance, and even when I had the opportunity to learn other dance styles for free in high school, I always held onto the foundations I gained from that praise dance team.

Currently, my favorite verse is "One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple." Psalm 27:4. This verse reminds me that the Lord is present in everything, and if I remain still long enough, I will be overwhelmed by His presence. Nothing can separate me from His love, so I pursue more of Him every day. Dancing is one of the ways I do this. I dance as I search for the Lord's heart, and as I dance, He opens up to me, and I to Him. It was through Him that my skill began to develop. The gift was given to please my God and draw others closer to Him.

MY PRAYER FOR YOU

I pray that Lord develops your gifts. I pray that He takes your hearts desires and turns them into offerings for His alter. I pray that you be filled with patience as He works on you and that His desires start to become your own, in Jesus' name! Amen
