The Power of One Obedient Day

Sometimes we underestimate obedience because we’re trained to chase outcomes. If there is no visible breakthrough, blessing or obvious answered prayer, we start to question God and His ways. So what, the transformation isn't obvious at first, the door didn't open right away or God has chosen a less dramatic approach to your deliverance? Don't overlook the importance of that one obedient day. The day you give Jesus your "yes" fully prepared to go in the direction that He chooses, doesn't ways lead to a perfect week. Let alone a flawless month. Still, that one day where you choose alignment over impulses, is such a powerful day.

Obedience Is Not Loud, It’s Consistent

Obedience doesn’t usually announce itself. It's not something trendy and it will probably never go viral. It may not even feel powerful most of the time. It can look like ordinary decisions made intentionally.

Waking up when you said you would.

Praying even when you don’t feel emotional.

Reading scripture instead of scrolling.

Doing what you said you were going to do.

Choosing peace over reaction.

Saying no when it would be easier to say yes.

Reading a blog you know will change your attitude.

Moments like this don’t feel monumental, but they are forming you into the person you want to be and pulling you away from the person you "just so happened" to be.

In scripture, God tells us, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land” (Isaiah 1:19). Willingness comes first and obedience follows. Intentional choices are attached to your will (your soul), and in training your soul to submit to the will of the Father, blessings come later.

One Obedient Day Realigns the Soul

Striving for an obedient life is amazing but don't rush to skip the foundational steps. There are so many benefits to just one obedient day. Here’s what one obedient day does:

It retrains your nervous system.

It restores trust between you and God.

It builds your confidence, as you realize what you can do.

It interrupts old cycles.

It proves to your flesh that it is not in control.

In our Dollar Dates we often talk about the power of compound interest when it comes to our investments. The same principle is true about our obedience. Obedience compounds. One obedient day becomes two. Then two becomes a habit. Soon our habits become identity and our identity shapes our destiny.

You may notice it's easy to sit still and dream about your future, but once you start putting in the work it seems impossible. That's because the enemy fights your daily discipline more than your big dreams. He knows that if you are constantly distracted from building the small steps that you will inevitably forfeit the bigger ones along the way.

Jesus Is Our Model For Daily Obedience

Jesus withdrew to pray regularly and followed the Father’s will consistently. Obedience wasn’t something He did occasionally, that was His normal, His everyday posture.

If the Son of God prioritized daily alignment, how much more do we need it?

Obedience Protects You from Self-Sabotage

Staying consistent in prayer, reading the Word and spending intentional planned time with the Lord keeps us from getting in our own way. Many of us don’t struggle with faith, we struggle with follow-through. It's not that we don't believe what the Lord has spoken or the dreams He has inspired, but our routine of carrying out the daily submissive posture with a willing heart is being interrupted.

We know what God asked us to do and we know what habits we need to keep. With our assignment comes new boundaries and greater surrender. So why aren't we taking the necessary steps?

Start today.

One obedient day breaks the illusion that you need motivation to move. It teaches you that obedience, by itself, produces momentum. Once you're on a roll, it's harder to get off the train.

For the Faithful People

If you feel overwhelmed by the idea of “changing your life,” let me free you from that pressure.

You don’t need to change your life entirely today. All you need to do is obey today. Obey the Lord's order of consistent rest and soft, prayerful mornings. David said "O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You". He goes on to say "When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches." (Psalm 63). So obey God in your night routine as you settle in for the day as well.

God can do more with one full obedient day than we can do with ten workaholic years and a thousand ambitious plans.

🤍 Here is a prayer that can lead you into a week of obedience:

Father,

Thank you for your constant and renewing mercies. Help me focus on today’s obedience instead of tomorrow’s outcomes. Strengthen my will to align with Yours, one faithful day at a time.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
